Police join search for missing boy

Thursday, June 5, 2014 — Update: According to Jeremy Calgaro, father of McKenzie Calgaro, he was found yesterday! 

Nine-year-old McKenzie Calgaro is missing this afternoon, Wednesday, June 4.

According to his father, Jeremy Calgaro, he was dropped off by the bus at Meadow View School but never made it home.

The Susanville Police Department is helping in the search.

Burns resigns as district attorney

Wednesday, June 4, 2014 — Lassen County District Attorney Robert Burns, who recently accepted a position as Lassen County Counsel, announced today he is resigning as district attorney effective Monday, June 9.

In a letter addressed to Larry Wosick, chairman of the Lassen County Board of Supervisors, Burns wrote, “Now that the voters have spoken, and consistent with my previously announced intentions, I hereby tender my resignation as Lassen County District Attorney/Public Administrator effective at 5 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2014. I am hopeful that you will consider appointing the victor from the June 3, 2014 Primary Election, Ms. Stacey Montgomery, as Lassen County’s next district attorney/public administrator to fill the remainder of my elected term.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and the citizens of Lassen County for the opportunity to have served in this very important position. It has been the honor of my professional career.”

Utility district urges customers to beware of fraudulent telephone calls

Wednesday, June 4, 2014 — The Lassen Municipal Utility District has received calls from several customers indicating they have received automated voice notifications that their power will be disconnected.Please be aware that LMUD does not leave automated messages regarding disconnections or any other LMUD matter.

“We are trying to get more information on the exact nature of these calls,” said Keri Richards, the district’s business office manager. “If you have any doubts about any phone calls from someone claiming to be the power or electric company, please call the LMUD office at 257-4174.”

Never make a payment to anyone who cannot positively identify himself or herself as an LMUD employee. Customers who are contacted or have been contacted by the automated message scam are encouraged to report the matter immediately to LMUD.

Many ballots still to be processed by county elections officials

Wednesday, June 4, 2014 — The California Secretary of State issued the following press release regarding yesterday’s election.

Just as they do after every statewide election, California county elections officials are currently counting the hundreds of thousands of vote-by-mail, provisional and other ballots not counted on election day.

County elections officials have until July 4 to ensure every eligible ballot is counted accurately and certify final election results to the Secretary of State. Then the Secretary of State has until July 11 to review the materials, resolve any reporting discrepancies and compile the 58 county reports for complete election results.
