High school approves developer fees

Friday, July 24, 2015 — Lassen Union High School has increased developer fees, which are levied on new construction to offset the cost of school facilities made necessary by the development.     
    Government code limits the fees to $3.36 per square foot for residential construction and 54 cents per square foot against commercial and industrial construction.
    The Lassen Union High School District Board of Trustees established its fees at the rates of $2.76 for new residential construction, 54 cents per square foot for business and industrial construction for 10 cents per square foot.

Susanville man arrested after burglary

Friday, July 24, 2015 — The observations of a Susanville police officer investigating a burglary led to the arrest of a Susanville man.
    Adam Mendes, 28, of Susanville, was arrested and booked into the Lassen County Jail for possession of stolen property and conspiracy to commit a felony. Additional charges of first-degree burglary, being a felon in possession of ammunition and illegal possession of a firearm also were forwarded to the Lassen County District Attorney’s Office, and the case has been forwarded to the district attorney for prosecution.
    Mendes is being held in lieu of $30,000 bail.

Chamber sponsoring town yard sale

Thursday, July 23, 2015 — All residents in Westwood, Clear Creek and Pinetown are invited to take part in a town-wide Yard Sale sponsored by the Westwood Area Chamber of Commerce on Aug. 8.
    To get the site of your yard sale posted on the map, call the chamber office at 256-2456 and leave your name, address and phone number on the answering machine. Your phone number will only be used if the chamber needs clarification on the information you submitted.
    Deadline to participate is Aug. 6.

Fire Safe Council gets grants

Thursday, July 23, 2015 — The Lassen County Fire Safe Council secured two grants for local projects.
    According to managing director Tom Esgate during the Monday, July 6 Lassen County Fire Safe Council meeting, the Diamond Mountain Project and the partner project, Lookout Pit River Conservation District, primarily on Beaty and Associates ground, were awarded grants as apart of California Fire Safe Council 2015 grant program.
    According the California Fire Safe Council website, the grants were to reduce hazardous fuels and maintain projects on non-federal land.

Park foundation selects new director

Thursday, July 23, 2105 — Jennifer Finnegan, 36, has been named executive director of the Lassen Park Foundation.
    Finnegan said, "As the new executive director of the Lassen Park Foundation, I am thrilled with the opportunity to work with its board of directors in seeking potential donors in support of Lassen Volcanic National Park. This philanthropic support helps fund numerous park programs, including camping for at-risk youth, the restoration of park resources, hiking and equestrian trail improvements and protection of wildlife.
