Sheriff commends efforts to find missing Janesville boy

Friday, Aug. 28k, 2015 — The alleged abduction of 12-year-old George Lapan gained state-wide attention as news outlets and social media displayed his picture all week in hopes the child would be found.
    Lapan, who went missing from his Janesville foster home Aug. 9, was turned into authorities in Barstow in the early morning of Aug. 15.
    An older sibling turned him in and an arrest warrant had been issued for Lapan’s mother, Kelly Lapan (Burdett) in connection with the alleged abduction.

Janesville teachers, students to see tech expansion

Friday, Aug. 28, 2015 — Students and teachers at Janesville Union School District should see an expansion of technology throughout campus.
    During the Tuesday, Aug. 11 board of trustees meeting, superintendent/ principal Zach Thurman shared some of the expected technological expanses taking place during the next couple of months.
    According to Thurman, teachers at Janesville School will receive Microsoft Surface Pro 3 tablets to use in the classroom.

Geyserville crash kills Susanville woman

Friday, Aug. 28, 2015 — Susanville resident Destiny Singleton, 21, and Dominick Conn, 21, of Windsor, California, were both killed in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 101 in Sonoma County near Geyserville, according to a report from the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.
    Abby Anderson, 18, and her father, Richard Anderson, 50, both of Cloverdale, California, suffered severe injuries in the crash.

Several changes made to bolster learning

Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015 — Wednesday, Aug. 19, the board of trustees for the Westwood Unified School District was brought up to date on all the preparations and improvements that had been made during the summer in preparation for the 2015/2016 school year.
    During their meeting, Principal Marci Johnson escorted the board to a nearby classroom to see an interactive electronic whiteboard, which she said was one of six installed on campus so teachers could use technology to enhance their lessons. It was also reported some teachers would use tablets to teach students.
    Randy Bobby, superintendent, said teacher in-services included ways to ensure every student is learning.
