Sesquicentennial celebration Tuesday

Saturday, March 29, 2014 — Lassen County celebrates its 150th anniversary at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 1 in front of the historic Lassen County Courthouse.

While larger sesquicentennial celebrations are set for later in the year in May, June and September, Lassen County District 2 Supervisor Jim Chapman, the Lassen County Chamber of Commerce, the Lassen County Historical Society and the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office plan to hold a brief ceremony.

Traffic stop leads to arrest

Friday, March 28, 2014 — A Susanville man is in custody on multiple charges after evidence discovered during a traffic stop allegedly linked him to a series of crimes.

Brenton Sullivan, 20, was booked into the Lassen County Jail on multiple charges including one count of second degree burglary, two counts of petty theft, three counts of possession of stolen property, one count of illegal use of an access card and one count of driving on a suspended driver’s license. He was held on $60,000 bail.

Arrest made in ongoing counterfeit money investigation

A Janesville man was arrested after investigations allegedly linked him with an ongoing counterfeit money investigation.

Officers arrested Randall Thompson, 49, at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20, according to a press release from the Susanville Police Department. The department executed a search warrant at a residence on Center Road in Janesville after a joint investigation by agents from the U.S. Secret Service.

Thompson was charged with manufacturing fictitious bills and possessing counterfeiting material. He was held on a $30,000 bail at the Lassen County Jail.

The investigation continues, and anyone with additional information is urged to contact the Susanville Police Department during regular business hours, or its 24-hour dispatch number at 257-2171.

Callers can choose to remain anonymous.

The Lassen County Narcotics Task Force, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, the California Highway Patrol and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation assisted the department during the execution of the search warrant, according to the release.

Child support services earns top 10 honors

Tuesday, March 25, 2014 — The Lassen County Department of Child Support Services earned prestigious recognition for excellence in overall performance among the 51 agencies statewide.

The local department earned the Top 10 Performance Award and Leslie Bell, California Department of Child Support’s regional director, recognized the staff and thanked them for all they’ve done during a Tuesday, March 18 meeting of the Lassen County Board of Supervisors.

More bus route info sought

Tuesday, March 25, 2014 — After carrying the matter over various meetings, the Lassen Transit Service Agency decided not to cancel two routes in question or change fare rates until seeing their progress through September.

At a previous meeting, the agency looked at two routes, the Night Shift South County Commuter route and the Eagle Lake route, due to poor ridership numbers.
