Roadwork will force delays

Thursday, June 25, 2015 — The California Department of Transportation, Caltrans District 2, along with contractor Knife River Construction from Chico, California, have begun work on the $3 million Smoky Creek Passing Lane project along Highway 32 in
Tehama County.
    Clearing and earthwork is currently taking place from 5 miles east of the Butte-Tehama County line, to 6.5 miles east of the Butte-Tehama County line. One-way traffic control is in effect from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes.

HeartShine pageant nears

Wednesday, June 23, 2015 — The inaugural Miss Sierra Nevada and Mini-Miss Sierra Nevada HeartShine pageants are seeking interested participants to partake in the event.
    According to Emily Fluke, who has participated in many pageants with the HeartShine system, she decided to start a pageant in the area for all interested boys and girls.
    Participants, age 0 to 25, can sign up to flaunt their best formal wear and modeling from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 27 at the Veterans Memorial Hall.

Bluegrass Festival comes to town

Wednesday, June 24, 2015 — In its sixth year, the Susanville Bluegrass Festival has become one of the favorite bluegrass destinations for pickers, grinners and bluegrass
fans from all across the
West Coast.  
    This year’s event kicks off Friday, June 26 and runs through Sunday, June 28 at the Lassen County Fairgrounds.
    Those wishing to attend can either purchase three-day passes or daily tickets.

Attorney appointed as hearing officer for marijuana ordinance

Wednesday, June 24, 2015 — An attorney who has worked in Lassen County for approximately 20 years will be presiding over administrative hearings for those found to be in violation of the medical marijuana ordinance.
    The Lassen County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Dan Howe as the hearing officer during a Tuesday, June 16 meeting.
    County counsel Bob Burns made the recommendation, although he said he had no ownership, he wanted to provide the board with a
recommendation.
     If the supervisors wanted another option, or to openly recruit or some other selection process he would be happy to do that.

Local girl’s picture on display in Washington D.C.

In Full Swing captures local Baylee Richardson swinging her prosthetic leg over a play structure at Shriner’s Memorial Hospital. The photograph was selected for The Children’s Hospitals Photo Exhibit and will first be displayed in the Russell Senate Building in Washington D.C. this week.

Wednesday, June 24, 2015 — A local girl’s picture has been selected for The Children’s Hospitals Photo Exhibit and will be displayed for public viewing in the rotunda of the Russell Senate Building in  Washington, D.C., this week of June 22.
    In Full Swing is a portrait of Baylee Richardson shown swinging her prosthetic leg over a play structure in the hospital waiting area.
    Richardson lost her leg as a result of amniotic band syndrome. Her picture is one of three to be selected from Shriners Hospitals for Children — Northern California photographer Julia Serat.
