Supes show support for Second Amendment

April 18, 2013 — Lassen County's Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a resolution supporting the Second Amendment and the people's right to keep and bear arms at its Tuesday, April 9 meeting, but the original wording of the resolution drew some sharp criticism from a Westwood couple.

    Eileen Spencer presented a letter to the board questioning the resolution's language that the board “cannot abide by any order, provision law or agency initiative that violates the protections of the Second Amendment.”

And when the ones who count rally around you, support you and encourage you through those difficulties, you know you are truly blessed. That’s something Jerome Thomas has learned during the past year at Lassen College.

  

Missing Herlong inmate sought

April 16, 2013 — Federal prison officials seek an inmate who walked away from a minimum-security camp in Herlong on Friday, April 5.

Inmate Roderick Earl Vanga, of Seattle, Wash. was discovered missing during a routine check Friday. He is 5 feet, 11 inches tall, weighs 155 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes. He is serving an 84-month sentence for conspiracy to import N-Bezylpiperazine (BZP).

The Federal Bureau of Investigation, the U.S. Marshals Service, state and local law enforcement have been notified. The public is asked to contact local law enforcement if they see this individual.

  

Home, Garden & Outdoor Recreation Show coming soon

April 16, 2013 — The Lassen County Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for the Seventh Annual Spring Home, Garden & Outdoor Recreation Show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 27 at the Lassen County Fairgrounds. 

Last year the show had more than 60 vendors and the Chamber expects the same turnout this year.

The Chamber estimates between 1,000 and 1,500 people visit the show each year, which provides local businesses an opportunity to showcase what they have to offer.

  

Army Depot supervisor faces theft charges

April 16, 2013 — A supervisor at Sierra Army Depot in Herlong responsible for receiving and inventorying military war materials from Iraq and Afghanistan faces felony theft charges in U.S. District Court in Sacramento.

According to press release from Lori McDonald, public information officer at the depot, “ … Mr. Devon Biggs, Jr., an employee at Sierra Army Depot, was arrested and taken into federal custody on charges related to the theft of government property. An investigation by Special Agents from the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation remains open and ongoing.  To protect the integrity of the investigative process and to protect the rights of all involved, no further details or information will be released at this time.”
