Failure to stop leads to arrest

Wednesday, July 16 — A traffic stop quickly turned into a vehicle pursuit after a Susanville man failed to yield.

At about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, Justin Lord, 26, failed to stop his vehicle after a Susanville police officer attempted to pull him over  on Fair Drive for driving without a license, according to a press release from the Susanville Police Department.

The chase lasted about four minutes and covered nearly 1.3 miles. Lord eventually stopped his vehicle, which reached nearly 50 miles per hour during the chase, on Hall Street. Upon stopping, he then allegedly tried to flee the scene on foot.

Crews are battling a vegetation fire west of Highway 395

Wednesday, July 16 — A lightning-caused fire burning west of Highway 395 is contained at approximately 15 percent as of this morning, Wednesday, July 16.

According to information from the Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center in Minden, Nevada, the fire started at approximately 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, July 15 and is burning in grass and sage brush. No structures are threatened.

Another crew has been ordered today for a total of three hand crews.

More fires burn in Susanville

Tuesday, July 15 — Two separate vegetation fires charred land and a structure throughout a two-day span.

At about 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, the Susanville Fire Department, along with Susan River Fire Protection District and Cal Fire rushed to a vegetation fire on South Railroad Avenue, according to a press release from the city fire department.

A human caused the fire intentionally, according to the press release. It burned about 1/4 acre of grass and burned a 5 by 10 foot outbuilding.

Afternoon fire burns structures

Tuesday, July 15, 2014 — An afternoon blaze burned through several structures, totaling a garage.

Just before 1 p.m. Sunday, July 6, firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire on N. Lassen Street, according to a press release from the Susanville Fire Department. Upon arrival, the crews found a heavy fire coming from a fully involved garage. The fire extended into an adjacent single-story residence with an attached garage and an adjacent storage unit.

The fire was human-caused, but was unintentional, according to fire captain Mark Ward.
