Emerson opening date changes
Golfers can expect to tee off on Emerson Lake Golf Course's new nine holes in spring of 2003. Golf course general manager Todd Sickles said construction efforts are moving along smoothly and the new 18 holes will soon take form.
The current fifth hole, which will become the first hole next year, has been hydro-seeded and will be open by July 1, Sickles said. Sod has already been placed around the green for golfers to play the hole as a par 3.
The Army Corps of Engineers will assess the wetlands area near the proposed driving range and No. 10 hole. "We're finally going to find out what we can do with that piece of land, what it's going to look like in the future," Sickles said.
Sickles hired Jimmy Estrella as the course's superintendent. Estrella brings 14 years of experience to the job, leaving an assistant superintendent job at Butte Creek Golf Course in Chico.
"Jimmy is very enthusiastic and is eager to please the golfers of Lassen County," Sickles said.
Golf costs $14 for nine holes and $18 for 18 at Emerson Lake. The twilight rate is $12.
