LHS girls capture 2nd in WSL
Lassen High School's softball team picked up its 20th win last week and locked up a playoff berth. With one Westside League game left, the Grizzlies (20-11) figure to enter the postseason as the No. 2 seed in the Northern Section Division III playoffs.
Las Plumas, which has already secured the WSL title, will be the top seed. Enterprise and West Valley play this week to decide the third and fourth seeds.
The Grizzlies dumped Oroville 4-1 and Las Plumas 3-0 last week to move to 7-2 in WSL play and nailed down second place.
Danielle Bera, who went 3-for-4 with a double and RBI against Oroville, has rewritten the record book at Lassen. The senior has scored 32 runs, crushing the single-season record of 26 set by Lyndsey Cable as a sophomore. She also has tied the single-season school record in hits with 35.
So far this season, Bera is 18-for-30 in league play.
Against Las Plumas, Megan Lybarger fired a one-hitter, striking out eight to get her seventh win in league play.
In the first inning, Megan Bera scored on a double steal, and in the third, Nicolette Stokes had a RBI-ground out. Alisha Perdue singled home Danielle Bera in the fifth.
Lassen plays three times this week, traveling to McQueen of Reno on Tuesday, hosting Orland on Wednesday, and playing at Quincy on Friday.
"We're looking to tune up for the playoffs and beat Orland to guarantee us a home game when we open the playoffs," Lassen head coach Paul Moore said. The Grizzlies would host an opening-round playoff game May 14 or 15.
