LHS girls' basketball team looks to retain its No. 4 ranking

Lassen High School's girls' basketball team looks to retain its No. 4 ranking in Northern Section's Division III when its squares off against three Westside League opponents this week.
The Grizzlies (5-2 in the WSL) host Orland Tuesday, Feb. 13, and travel to Corning the next night and Gridley Thursday, Feb. 15.

Lassen enters this week as owners of third place in the WSL. Oroville leads at 8-0 and Gridley is second with a 6-2 record.

Lassen crushed Las Plumas 69-40 at home Tuesday, Feb. 6, behind Jeris Evans' 20 points. Tanneria Johnson netted 15, and Tenley DeKock, Haley Trevino and Reanna Leitaker scored six.

DeKock sprained an ankle and may miss some action this week.

"It would be nice to win these three games and get a good seed for the playoffs," Lassen head coach Dorinda Shaffer said. "Gridley is a tough game to end the season on. It's always hard to go down there and play at their place."

Ranked ahead of Lassen in Division III is Enterprise, Anderson and Oroville with Gridley lurking in the wing. Three wins should make the Grizzlies a host of a first-round playoff game.

The section playoffs start next week.
