Coaches meeting scheduled

A Little League coaches meeting has been scheduled for Friday, March 23, at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria at Fletcher Walker Elementary School. Anyone interested in coaching during the upcoming season should attend the meeting or contact league president Dale Jorgensen at 256-2349.

The board of directors for the league is also looking for umpires for the season. Anyone 15 years old or older and who has had previous baseball or softball experience may contact Umpire-in-Chief Pat Peters at 256-2730.

The league is looking to fill two girls softball teams for ages 9-12, as well as a girls junior softball team for ages 13-15.

There are four boys major teams again this year for ages 9-12 as well as a junior team for ages 13-15. This year they are trying for a senior boys traveling team for ages 15-16. This team would not start the season until June.

The final date for sign-ups for the 2001 season will be Wednesday, March 21, at FWES from 6-8 p.m.

All first-time players are reminded to bring a copy of their birth certificates at the time of registration. The fee is $45 per child for the first two children in the same family, and $10 for each additional child. To be eligible to play, the child has to be five years old and not older than 16 by July 31.

The Westwood Little League board expressed appreciation for everyone who volunteers time and energy.

"It is the support of the parents, community and others that make Little League a success. We are looking forward to a great 2001 season," said Jorgensen.
