NOPE comes to town
Community members are invited to attend a NOPE presentation with the Lassen County Narcotics Taskforce, Lassen County Alcohol and Drug Department and Brenda Hoffman whose son, Alan Hoffman, died in September.
The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. tonight Tuesday, Nov. 28, in the Lassen High School Student Center.
The Narcotic Overdose Prevention and Education Taskforce is a group of community leaders and concerned parents working to save lives through dramatic personal presentations about the deadly consequences of drug abuse combined with ongoing efforts to influence anti-drug legislation and the provision of vital information about where young people with a substance abuse problem and their families can go for help.
NOPE was formed in 2002 by Palm Beach law enforcement and was joined by members of families who have lost loved ones to overdose deaths.
It became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization on June 24, 2004. Today the program has more than 150 members from both the public and private sectors of the community.
In response to the panic and pain following the death of teenagers Stephen Draxler and Alan Hoffman, a group of Susanville area parents started meeting to network with each other, said parent Lynette Ancrily.
They are stepping up to the plate, coming up with ways to provide more supervision and brainstorming more activities for teenagers and providing more information with programs, such as the NOPE program, and prescription drugs.
