Parolee at large arrested
Susanville Police Detective Tom Downing said Brooks Matthew Berridge, 41, surrendered without incident after he was discovered hiding in a shed next door to the Monrovia Avenue house.
Downing said Berridge’s parole officer had been looking for him for some time, and that he’d made threats regarding law enforcement officers. Berridge was arrested on a no-bail, parolee-at-large warrant by officers from the Susanville Police Department, the Lassen County Sheriff’s Department, the Lassen County Narcotics Task Force and the Lassen County District Attorney’s Office.
Information developed by law enforcement officers Thursday morning led officers to the Monrovia Avenue residence.
The parolee’s younger brother, Andrew M. Berridge, 28, was sentenced to 33 years to life in May 2006 for the attempted murder of Lassen County Deputy Sheriff Ken McCormick.
A jury of seven women and five men convicted him in February. They found Berridge pointed a sawed-off shotgun at McCormick’s face on April 28 and pulled the trigger, but it didn’t go off.
