Search continues for missing woman
Friends and co-workers of Mary Ann McDonald, the Diamond View Middle School aide who’s been missing since Thursday, March 29, plan to join a search on Saturday morning, April 7.
But first, they will meet with representatives of the Lassen County Search and Rescue Team at 8 a.m. on Friday, April 6, at Meadow View School in north Susanville.
Volunteers had planned to search for Mary McDonald, 41, of Litchfield, on Friday, but changed their plans after talking to a Search and Rescue representative, according to one of the organizers, Tiffany Wedge, who works in the cafeteria at Meadow View.
“Lassen Search and Rescue had never been notified until Wednesday,” Wedge said. “They were watching the story and waiting for a call, but never got one.”
Flyers were already posted for the effort, but the whole Search and Rescue team was not available on Friday. A representative will explain search and rescue procedures to the volunteers on Friday morning, Wedge said. Then, the whole team will be able to go full force at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
“Search and Rescue didn’t want to have to do a search and rescue on us,” Wedge said.
Thirty to 40 volunteers from the school district, including aides, custodians and maintenance people plan to help with the search.
Friends say McDonald disappeared after a misunderstanding with her husband, who is a custodian for the Janesville School District.
A representative of Channel 8 in Reno also said on Thursday, April 5, the television station planned to publicize the story.
Volunteers said they have no real idea where to search and hope to get some pointers from search and rescue.
Lassen County Sheriff’s investigators asked the public on Monday, April 2, for information about McDonald. The department received a report that she was last seen that day at 3:30 p.m. She was reportedly distraught after the disagreement with her husband.
She’s described as 5 feet, 4 inches tall, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was wearing a dark shirt and tan pants and driving a green 1996 Eagle Talon, California license plate number 3RLJ303.
Investigators asked anyone with information to call the Lassen County Sheriff’s office at (530) 257-6121.
