Early playoff exit for Courgars

For the third consecutive year, Lassen College's baseball team has failed to advance to the second round of the Northern California Regional Playoffs. The Cougars (21-19) was the first team to get ousted from the first-round, double-elimination regional tournament held at Sacramento City College last weekend.

Seeded No. 15 in Northern California, Lassen opened with a 11-0 loss to Sacramento City on Friday and squandered a 4-0 lead to Chabot to fall 8-7 in 10 innings on Saturday.

Sacramento City starting pitcher Erik Lohse held Lassen to just five hits while striking out 12. The Panthers led 3-0 after three innings before adding five runs in the fourth.

Lassen's Josh Ritter and Dayton Hendricks went 2-for-4.

Against Chabot, Lassen led 5-1 through 5-1/2 innings. Chabot responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth and pushed the game into extra inning innings with two in the eighth.

Chris Wainhouse's RBI-single in the top of the 10th inning gave the Cougars a 7-6 lead, but Chabot scored twice in the bottom of the inning to win it. Joel Hoffman, Derek Neuenschwander, and Wainhouse had two hits.
