Wilda “Willie” Crouse passed away at her home on Oct. 18, 2007.
She was born Jan. 3, 1926, in Red Bluff, Calif. She moved to Susanville at a young age where she attended the local schools. Willie worked many years in several local restaurants and later held the position of manager for the King Wah Restaurant and Lounge.
Willie is survived by her loving husband of almost 60 years, Burton Crouse; her son Burton Crouse, Jr.; daughters Lila Bennett and Ellen Clem; granddaughters Shelly Quarisa and Tina Kennemore; and grandson Kevin Clem.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society or charity of choice.
LAWRENCE KOZIOL
Lawrence “Larry” Koziol passed away peacefully on Oct. 24, 2007 at the Country Villa Nursing Home in Susanville, California.
He is survived by his wife, Edna, of nearly 56 years and his daughter and son-in-law Sophia and Jim Wages, granddaughters Stacy Wages of Redding, Calif. and Jamie Curran of Chandler, Ariz.
Larry was preceded in death by his son, Barry in 1988 and his brother Henry “Hank” in 1997.
Born in Askov (Norman Township), Minn. on Feb. 18, 1918, Larry attended grammar school in Rochester, Minn. and attended the Fairbault High School for the Deaf. He excelled in basketball and football and in 1937 received “Most Valuable Player in the Midwestern Conference.” After high school he attended Rochester Community College where he played football. In 1981 he was awarded the Hall of Fame Player by the Farwest Athletic Association of the Deaf in Fairbault, Minn. In 1997, he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame by the Minnesota School for the Deaf and received this award in Beverly Hills, Calif.
During his long life he was a fisherman in Costa Rica, worked 10 years at the AiResearch Manufacturing Company in Southern California through World War II, and in 1950, came to Susanville to work with his brother, Henry, in the logging industry. He was known for his fearless retrieval of logs on steep mountainsides as a “cat skinner” for Fruit Growers, Gerspacher, Winebarger, and Shaffer Logging Companies.
He married Edna Stacy in the St. Thomas Catholic Church in Reno, Nev. on Nov. 24, 1951.
Larry was an avid sportsman; he enjoyed bird hunting with his dogs and fishing the many lakes in the area, as well as all sports. He especially looked forward to the summer outings with his life-long friend Maurcie Vogel. During the winter months he played “pan” and “snooker” with all of his buddies at the Pioneer and State Café. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his friends at the T and A. He loved his motorcycles and purchased his last one upon his retirement at age 65 – a Harley Davidson chopper.
Larry also coached the Native American basketball team in the early 1950’s to many championships.
A Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at the Sacred Heart Church in Susanville.
TOLBERT DAVID STOUT
Tolbert David Stout, (Tal), long time Susanville resident, passed away on Oct. 22, 2007 at the age of 81. He was born in Arkansas, January 31, 1926. At age 17 he moved with his family to Susanville, Calif., were he met and married Violet Darlene Wood.
He is survived by his children Susan Rawlins, Deborah Stout, Rozlah Ridenoure, Terri May, Monte Stout, Keren Brazier and Teresa Mossinger. He had 13 grandchildren and one great-grandson, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also loved as “Dad” and “Grandpa” by many children and grandchildren of extended friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Jody Dawn Stout and his son Wade Patrick Stout, parents Lona and May Bell Stout, and his 11 brothers and sisters.
Tolbert was a well knows timber faller in Northern California and Oregon. He was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan. He enjoyed coin-collecting, league bowling, and belonged to several horseshoe pitching associations.
All friends and family are welcome to join us for a memorial service which will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 3, 2007 at Susanville Senior Center 1700 Sunkist Ave., Susanville California. Private interment will be at Diamond Crest Cemetery.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Tolbert’s memory, to the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation or your local Hospice Foundation.

Juanita Ruth Finks, 88, of Red Bluff, Calif., died Oct. 11, 2007, in Grass Valley Calif.
She was born Jan. 4, 1919, in Idaho.
She was preceded in death by husband Bob Finks, daughter Barbara Blunt and two great-grandchildren.
She is survived by daughters Yvonne Fulton and Carolyn Moore, both of Grass Valley, Calif., Charles “Butch” Finks, of Maxwell, Calif., Jim Finks, of Litchfield, Calif., 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held in Maxwell on Oct. 18.

Marvin E. Haynes, 54, died Oct. 22, 2007, in Doyle Calif.
He is survived by his wife, Lyn Haynes; his mother, Ellen Haynes, son, Michael Haynes; daughter, Breanne Haynes; brothers, Ralph and Tommy Haynes; sisters Sheilla Moody, Laverne Rathburn, Kathy Cecchi and Margaret Babb; nine grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 26, 2007 in Reno, Nev.
