Herlong market owner wanted in questioning about handgun incident
Fern’s wife contacted Fern and he told her to get out of the store.
“He was going to shoot the place up,” according to the sheriff’s department dispatch log.
Two deputies responded.
Fern fled the area prior to deputies’ arrival and was wanted for questioning as of noon on Thursday, Nov. 8.
Students from Sierra Primary School were kept from going outside because there was a report Fern might be in route to the gym across the street from the school. Principal Brian Young reportedly was familiar with the suspect and agreed to report back if he saw Fern.
Fern is described as having white hair and hazel eyes. He is six feet five inches tall and weighs 260 pounds. He was reportedly driving a 2001 white Ford Ranger pickup, California license plate number 6S63391, with a silver tool box and dents in the body.
Anyone with any information about Fern’s location or the incident is urged to call the Lassen County sheriff’s department at 251-8013.
