Charlotte Lucille Langley, age 81, was called home to her Father in Heaven on Jan. 11, 2008, at Pilot Hill, Calif., where she has been living with her daughter Cherilyn Grover for the past year.
She was a longtime resident of Lassen County and has resided in Susanville for 80 years. Charlotte was born in Susanville, Calif., on Nov. 1, 1926, to John and Stella Morris. On Aug. 9, 1943, she married the love of her life, John Marion Langley, in Oakland, Calif., while he was serving in the United States Navy during WWII. He preceded her in death on Feb. 26, 1985.
Charlotte is survived by one brother, Donald Morris, and wife Pauline, Of Chico, Calif.; two daughters, Cherilyn Grover and husband Stan, of Pilot Hill., Calif.; and Jan Green and husband Mike, of Susanville, Calif.; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, six sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her children and grandchildren adored her and were presents during her final days. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints. Her services will be held at the Susanville Ward Building at 11 a.m., on Jan. 22, 2008. Her interment will be at the Diamond Crest Cemetery.

Donald Roy “Duke” Morlan passed away at Countryvilla Riverview in Susanville on Jan. 17, 2008, at 60 years of age.
He was the second son of Douglas and Lucille Morlan, born Dec. 22, 1947, in Houston, Tex.
Duke was a heavy equipment operator employed by the local timber industry and also commercially fished in southeast Alaska with his father. He served his county in Vietnam as a Navy veteran.
Duke was the victim of a serious motorcycle accident in 1983 that left him disabled and has been confined to rehabilitation facilities since that date.
He loved fishing, hunting, playing guitar, artwork, the great outdoors and motorcycles.
He is survived by his only daughter, Atlantis Pringle; sons Ryan Morlan, Brentt Morlan, Micheal Morlan, Donald Roy Morlan II; and grandsons, Dustin McKim and Zackary Moore.
He is also survived by his sisters, Ronnie Anne Chandler and Bobbie Jo Moe; and brothers, Glenn Morlan and Jason Morlan; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas Garvin Morlan and Lucille Slay Morlan and sister, April Lynn Morlan.
A private service will be held at a later date.
RENEÉ MICHELLE GREGORY
Reneé Michelle Gregory passed away at her home Jan. 15, after a FIVE-year battle with brain cancer. She was born in Susanville on Feb. 6,1970. She is the daughter of Gary French and Cleora Denton.
Reneé is survived by her husband Matthew Gregory, daughter Jackie Snyder, son Justin Snyder, and stepson Brandon Gregory. Her mother Cleora and stepfather Ron Denton live in Oroville. She has two sisters, Kerry McKechnie, of Scotland, and Nicole French, of Las Vegas.
Reneé was active in the Grace Fellowship Foursquare Church in Susanville. Prior to her illness, she worked at Sierra Army Depot for nine years, and Lassen County for just over one year. She graduated from Lassen High School in 1988.
Reneé received an associate degree in legal administration from Morrison College in Reno. Reneé loved spending time with family and friends, camping at Lake Almanor and listening to 80’s music.

Graveside services were held Friday, Jan. 18 at Diamond Crest Cemetery in Johnstonville.
JD HEMPHILL
JD Hemphill passed away at the ranch Dec. 19, 2007.
Hemphill was the second son born to Otho and Mildred McCully Hemphill in Broughton, Kan., on April 8, 1933. The family moved from Broughton to the Hemphill Ranch at Janesville Feb. 28, 1938.
Hemphill attended Missouri Bend Elementary School and graduated from Lassen High School in 1951. He graduated as Valedictorian of the 1953 Lassen College class.
Hemphill was an Army veteran serving from June of 1953 to February 1955. He served in Germany with his brother Jack.
Upon return from his Army duty he took over the family ranch in 1956. He and 10 other dairymen formed the Morning Glory Dairy. He was in the dairy business until 1973 when he sold the dairy herd and raised hay and cattle for the rest if his life. He was State Brand Inspector from 1982 until he retired in 2006.
Hemphill is survived by his wife of 44 years, Frances. His sons and their families; Joe and Rhonda and granddaughters, Jessica and Kendra, of Tulelake, Jeff and Nancy, of Janesville; nephews Dave Neill, of Santa Clarita, and Mike Neill, of Susanville; brothers Bob and Delores, of Janesville, Jack and Irene, of Sacramento, and Dr. Jerry and Marka Hemphill, of Susanville; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Hemphill served on the Janesville School Board for 20 years and Lassen County Board of Education for 23 years. He was on the Lassen County Farm Bureau Board and a member of the Lassen County Cattlemen’s Association. He was a 4-H leader for 50 years and a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Services for JD will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 28, 2007 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
SHERAN ARTIS JACKALONE
Sheran Artis Jackalone, 65, died on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, in Susanville, Calif. She was born Feb. 12, 1942, in San Diego, Calif.
She is survived by her husband John, sons John, Frank, and Jonathan; daughters Debra, Geena, and Jackie; brother Butch, numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held at the Standish Bible Church at 1 p.m., on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008.
