Susanville firefighter gets promoted
These new duties will add up to make Weaver a very busy member of the fire department. Weaver is a shift supervisor with the department, coordinating the efforts of other firefighters on duty. He’s also in charge of the fire department’s Explorer Post 2911, a post his son just joined this past summer. Within the last six months Weaver has also become the training officer for the entire department, in charge of making sure everyone is properly trained to use equipment properly and act according to procedure.
Round out his responsibilities as the department’s representative for the Laborer’s Local 3 union, and Weaver’s days at the department are pretty much full.
Fire Chief Stu Ratner said Weaver didn’t know he was going to be promoted until during the staff meeting on Thursday, Jan. 24.
“Mr. Weaver has been a hard worker,” Ratner said. “We’re very proud of him, and we’re very happy to promote him to the position of engineer.”
Ratner said he has been considering Weaver for the promotion since last summer, and that his hard work and diligence is what won him over.
Weaver himself said he didn’t want to make a big deal about the promotion, but a firefighter on Weaver’s shift Brad Medvin said that’s just Weaver’s modesty.
“Dan is a very humble man,” Medvin said.
Weaver himself said he is happy about the promotion.
Originally starting out as a volunteer firefighter for the Susan River Fire Department more than 12 years ago, Weaver said this is just another step up the ladder in a department he plans to retire in.
