Burglary suspect arrested
While SPD captain Tom Downing said the police aren’t ready to confirm whether it believes he was involved in the recent string of burglaries around Susanville.
Downing confirmed there were at least two burglaries in the early hours of the morning of Thursday, July 3. Mugsy’s hot dog stand near the corner of Weatherlow and Main streets was one of the businesses. This marks the second time Mugsy’s has been burglarized this week. Downing said someone smashed one of the building’s windows and took the cash register on Monday, June 30. He said a phone and an answering machine were taken in the second break-in.
The other business was the Chevron on the corner of Alexander and Main streets. Downing said numerous miscellaneous items were taken from the business, including beer and knives.
These two break-ins join are part of a series of burglaries that happened two weeks ago to Main Street businesses on Sunday, June 22 and Monday, June 23. Big O Tires, Beauty Corral, Dominos Pizza and Fred’s Barbershop also reported being burglarized.
Downing said officers have collected evidence from both Chevron and Mugsy’s, and will release more information as they progress in their investigation.
