Suspect sought for guns theft

Oct. 21, 2008 — Police are seeking one or more suspects in connection with a residential burglary that resulted in the theft of several firearms. Susanville Police officers responded to the 1400 block of First Street at about 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9. The response was in regards to a call about a residential burglary that had occurred roughly between 8:45 – 9:45 a.m. The suspect(s) entered the house through a locked back door. While the residents of the house were still sleeping, the suspects stole 11 firearms from an upstairs bedroom.

Information developed through the course of the investigation now has the department seeking 28-year-old Susanville resident Jessy Lee Richards. Richards is a parolee at large, wanted for questioning in connection to the case.

Officers and detectives at the scene were able to obtain enough information that resulted in the issuance of a search warrant for an apartment at Millview apartments at 780 Hall Street. Because of the involvement of stolen weapons, the Lassen Interagency SWAT team was deployed to assist in serving the warrant. No firearms were found at the residence.

Christopher Andrew Trujillo, 22, of Susanville was at the apartment when the warrant was served. He was arrested because of outstanding felony warrants out of Lassen County.

Because Richards is possibly armed, the SPD is urging community members who see him not to contact him, but to call the police department immediately at 257-2171.

The investigation is ongoing, and the police are still investigating the possibility of other suspects. Anyone with information is urged to call the police department. Callers can remain anonymous.
