D.D. Norvel, the sheep man, was in town Monday, and he reported continued cold weather in the mountains.
There was a well-contested running race at the track between horses owned by Laine, Hart and Wilson. Laine’s animal won the race and the money.70 years ago
James A. Leavitt submitted his resignation from the Lassen County Board of Supervisors.
The resignation came as a sequel to an investigation of the affairs of the Road District Number 2 by the Lassen County Grand Jury, which laid the foundation for a civil suit against Leavitt requesting his ouster from office.
The supervisors unanimously accepted Leavitt’s resignation.

Sewage disposal problems in Lassen County were the subject of discussion during a meeting of the Lassen County Board of Supervisors. A county sanitation engineer explained that if subdivisions were permitted on the flood plains in the Ravendale- Madeline area, it would mean that seepage of contaminated water would likely pollute area wells.

The big land swap proposed by the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management received almost unanimous opposition during a major public hearing held in Susanville. The two federal agencies were proposing to exchange administrative responsibility for about 35 million acres of land nationwide, to culminate a long-standing effort to eliminate overlapping jurisdictions that had appeared in the administration of public lands in past years.

While a $1.8 million deficit threatened county jobs and services, County Administration Officer Bill Bixby made an offer to City Administrator Roy Bysegger to save the library. Although Bixby announced the county would not have the funds to continue operating the library system, he made a proposal to turn the library over to the city.
Bixby proposed that the county actively support the island annexation of the California’s Correctional Center, and with the prison’s current population, the city could realize $200,000 to preserve the library system at its current level of service.

The construction of the new Lassen Community Hospital took a giant step toward reality on Tuesday, June 13.
The Lassen County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved an offer of road and utility right-of-way on Bureau of Land Management property.
The new hospital will be located on the east side of Highway 139, north of Lassen College.

After working out a compromise, the Susanville Indian Rancheria and the Susanville Police Department jointly announced they have come to a consensus concerning the mixed martial arts tournament scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 26 at the SIR’s Diamond Mountain Casino.

The state of California’s $24 billion deficit could cost Lassen County more than $1 million.
That was the grim news John Ketelsen, Lassen County’s chief administrative officer, delivered to the Lassen County Board of Supervisors at its Tuesday, June 9 meeting.
“The game plan with the (state) budget is changing drastically,” Ketelsen said.
The state adopted an 18-month budget in February and sought voter approval for a number a measures to help the state financially, but the voters soundly rejected the budget measures.
