Cougars dominate conference in opening games
Oct. 18, 2011 — The Lassen Cougars men’s soccer team kicked off the Golden Valley Conference play at home in style with a 4-1 win over Butte College Tuesday, Oct. 4.
“I was pleased with the result,” said Ben Wade, head coach for the Cougars.
Butte was the first to score in the opening moments of the game but it was all Lassen until the closing moments.
David Lopez, the only returning starter from last year’s GVC champions, scored the first goal for Lassen followed by Shannon Pocock, of Swindon, England, scored the second goal in the first half.
Paul Van Mierle, of Adelaide, Australia, who started the second half with a Lassen goal and captain Gabriel Colombo, of Sao Paolo, Brazil, scored the fourth and final goal for Lassen to secure the win.
The Cougars continued the GVC domination with a 7-2 win over Shasta College Friday, Oct. 7.
The Cougars returned to Shasta College Friday, Oct. 14, and came away with a 2-0 win.
The team continued to domination with a 10-0 win over the College of the Sequioas.
The Cougars are scheduled to return to Susanville Ranch Park today, Tuesday, Oct. 18, at 1 p.m, to take on Butte College.
The next home appearance will be against GVC rivals Feather River College at 12 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 22, at Susanville Ranch Park.
