Tonight, Tuesday, Nov. 4, the Soaring Eagle Blue Star Moms are hosting an election night potato bake from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Veterans Hall basement on Main Street in Susanville. You can dine in or take it to go. Proceeds benefit the local chapter of Blue Star Moms, who assist active duty military and local veterans.
T FOWLER-BAILEY SHOW
This Friday night, Nov. 7 at Artisian Coffee in Janesville, Therese Fowler-Bailey will be having a premier show. The never-before-seen original watercolors will be on display and for sale from 5:30 to 8 p.m. All the watercolors are of scenery in Lassen and Plumas counties. There will be refreshments to enjoy as well.
VFW AUXILIARY OUT WITH POPPIES
Known as the Memorial Flower of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Auxiliary, is the red crepe paper poppy. Our local VFW Auxiliary Unit 2381 will be out with their poppies at Walmart, Safeway and IGA/Susanville Supermarket as well as the parade on Nov. 11. The poppies are hand made exclusively by hospitalized veterans, in many cases the income derived from this source constitutes the only income of that hospitalized veteran. They are meant to be worn on Veterans Day to pay tribute to the nation's honored war dead. All contributions made by the public are used by the VFW Auxiliary exclusively for the welfare of the needy veterans and their families.
LAST DAY FOR LASSEN HOOPS
The last day to sign up for Lassen Hoops is this Thursday, Nov. 6. Sign-ups are from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Susanville Pizza Factory for girls in grades third through eighth and boys third through sixth grade.
DIAMOND VIEW CRAFT FAIR
Diamond View School will be having their holiday Craft and Book Fair on Dec. 6. They are currently accepting vendors and have small and large spaces available at great rates. You can pick up an application at Diamond View School or call Shirley Littlefield at 257-5144.
GROOMING AND CARAMEL CORN?
What do grooming and caramel corn have in common? Well nothing, other than you can get both at Treats Natural Pet Marketplace. Owner Monte Kielty tells us they have been so busy with the pet grooming that they have brought in an apprentice groomer to assist them. While your four-legged pet is getting groomed, you can enjoy a treat yourself. Monte said they just started carrying Shasta Gold Caramel Corn from Redding.
LOCAL SEARS NOT CLOSING
According to Kevin Smith, co-owner of Sears Hometown store in Susanville, they are not closing their store. You may have heard in the national news some rumors about Sears Holding Corp may be closing some of their stores.
According to Kevin, "Sears Hometown stores are an entirely separate public company with more than 940 stores across the nation. Our store has been in the top 200 for some time. We operate complete separately from Sears Holding stores."
Speaking of our local Sears store, Kevin also informs us this year they are having a Black November, not just a Black Friday. He also tells us they will be opening on Thanksgiving Day as well again this year. Be sure and stop by their Main Street Susanville store seven days a week.
COPPERVALE DINNER AND DANCE
The annual Coppervale fundraiser dinner and dance will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 7 at the Lassen College cafeteria/Student Union. Tickets are on sale now. See their ad in this week’s paper for all the event details.
Melissa McCoy, owner of Every Bloomin’ Thing, is having a Harvest Fest beginning at 10 a.m. both days this Saturday and Sunday. Sip warm caramel apple cider, children can decorate cupcakes, sample gourmet food, and check out their holiday premiere. The first 50 guests each day will be treated to a free gift.
