Lady Jacks get win over Patriots, fall out of semi-final round to Warriors
Nov. 23, 2011 — The Westwood High varsity volleyball team was nearly thwarted from a chance at a championship title in their first appearance in the Northern Section CIF Division VI playoffs against the Liberty Christian Patriots, Tuesday, Nov. 15, at home.
After receiving a bye-week, the Lady Jacks in the number two seed, earned two quick wins over the Patriots, 25-13 and 25-20.
In the third game, the Lady Jacks seemed to have lost momentum, and after battling it out with some incredible rallies including several hard digs off of the net, the Patriots came out on top for a 26-24 win.
The Patriots earned another win in the fourth game, 25-20, after the Lady Jacks were down most of the game and were unable to take the lead.
In the fifth and determining game, the Patriots received the first points, but it proved unfruitful. Liberty Christian fell hard as the Lady Jacks stepped up their game and dominated 15-4.
The Lady Jacks moved onto the semi-final round to take on the number three seed, the Mercy High Warriors, Thursday, Nov. 17, at home.
The team couldn’t keep the momentum needed to make it to the championship round and fell 3-2 to the Warriors.
The Lady Jacks fell hard in the first game, 25-15, before coming back strong in the second to win 25-21.
In game three, the Lady Jacks managed to get by with another win, 25-23, but the Warriors refused to give up and battled for a 28-26 win in the fourth.
The fifth and final game of the match found Westwood falling hard, 15-7.
The Lady Jacks close out the season with an overall record of 21-4, including going undefeated in the Pioneer Mountain League in six games to claim the league title for the 2011 season.
