Grizzly girls conclude season on uneven note
Lassen High School's girls' golf team finished the season on a disappointing note at Northern Section Championships at the Colusa Golf Club. Central Valley and runner-up Pleasant Valley carded team scores 75 strokes better than the rest of the field.
Caitlin Monroe fired a 8-over-par 80 to win the individual title.
Lassen's Jill Poulsen shot a 112 and was followed by Megan Kelley's 114. They were trailed by teammates Katelyn Justice (121), Danae Cady (128), Melissa Tinsley (128) and Brandy Harris (134).
"The scores were much better than last year," Lassen coach Bob Wall said.
A score of 110 qualified a golfer for last year's Nor Cal Championships, but it took a 95 to make it this season.
Lassen finished second in its league. A nine-hole match at Southridge Country Club concluded league play. Central Valley again topped the field.
Kelley carded a career-low 48 to lead Lassen. She was backed up by Jill Poulsen (52), Cady (53), Justice (58), Harris and Tinsley (60).
The conclusion of the season marked the end of the three seniors.
Sarah Starcevich, Cady and Tinsley were members of the inaugural girls' team three years ago.
"They will be missed," Wall said. "Those three improved considerably in the last three years."
Although eight underclassmen, including four juniors, return next year, the team will be deep.
"Jill and Megan will be aiming to repeat and improve on this year's scores. And the team will seek to elevate their skills and put itself into a position to win a league title," Wall said.
