Grizzlies fall to Paradise again
Reanna Leitaker's career-high 22 points was not enough to propel Lassen High School's girls' basketball team to a win over Paradise in the opening round of the Red Bluff Daily News Holiday Classic last Wednesday.. The Grizzlies were down 12-7 early in the game, but charged back in the second quarter to trail the Bobcats 28-27 at halftime. Leitaker netted 12 points in the second quarter.
Autumn Martens then caught fire in the third quarter, hitting for eight points and helping tie the score 50-50 after the third quarter.
But the Grizzlies mustered only four points in the fourth quarter to succumb to Paradise for the second time in two weeks.
Martens finished with 10 points and Rebecca Retterath had eight.
Melissa Smith scored 22 points to lead the Bobcats. Mary Dominguez netted 12.
The loss moved Lassen into the consolation bracket where it was set to play Anderson on Thursday, Dec. 20. Results of Thursday's game and the remainder of the tournament were not available at press time.
This is the Grizzlies' second appearance at the Holiday Classic. They beat Paradise 62-58 to place third last year.
