Travis Brass performs in Susanville Saturday, Sept. 16
Sept. 4, 2012 — They’ve been called inspirational, and the U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West from Travis Air Force base in California sees their music as a platform for reaching out and encouraging young people and others, according to an article by MSgt. Sherry Burt.
The Travis Brass ensemble, an group made up of musicians from a larger band, will perform at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Susanville at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15.
“Working with students provides a way for band members to encourage valuable life skills such as perseverance, self-expression and discipline. In addition, the students develop a greater appreciation for the traditions of military music to boost morale, celebrate patriotism and foster goodwill,” wrote Burt.
Cathy Hanson, finance secretary and membership chair of the Soaring Eagle Blue Star Moms, said, “We do a lot of research as to the different possibilities of who to bring in. We want to honor the veterans. They’re so important and aren’t honored in the way we think they should be.”
Hanson also said they would have a collection area at the Veterans Hall to leave donations for the Blue Star Moms' annual care packages to our troops.
