Internationally renowned multi-instrumentalist and artist Mark Growden will be performing at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16 at the Walker Mansion Inn in Westwood. Owner Esther Pretti said tickets are on sale for the “Concert on the Green” and include a barbecued hamburger picnic lunch. Growden, who grew up in Westwood, has released several critically acclaimed albums. He has completed many successful U.S. tours, performing at venues such as the Fillmore and Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, and Tonic and The Knitting Factory in New York. He co-founded and co-produces the underground site-specific performance series “Covert” with famed artist John Law of Cacophony Society and Suicide Club fame.

FALL CRAFT FESTIVAL IN SUSANVILLE

The Historic Uptown Susanville Association is hosting their annual Fall Crafter's Festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 15 in the uptown district. TOMATO TASTING/PURSES FOR PETS

The second annual Tomato Festival and Purses for Pets (gently used upscale handbag auction) takes place this Saturday, Sept. 15 at Every Bloomin' Thing. Melissa McCoy, owner of Every Bloomin' Thing, informs us all the proceeds from this event go to our local spay and neuter program via the Lassen Humane Society. The event begins at 2 p.m. Sample more than 20 heirloom tomatoes and fresh bruschetta, sip wine and enjoy live music. Treats Dog Company will also be on hand that day. You may enter the giant tomato contest, or just come to this fun, free event while raising money for a great cause.

RETIRING CENTURY 21 SUSANVILLE

After many years of servicing the Susanville community, the decision was made to retire the Century 21 Cottage Realty office. Mary Getz, broker/CEO, informs us it was a difficult decision for them to make, andthey appreciate all the years of loyalty shown to them by their customers.

Although the office is retiring, longtime realtors Noelle Haller-Riggs and Mel Benny still remain in the real estate business. NEW SATURDAY WORSHIP SERVICE

If you find it just doesn't work for you and your family to go to church on Sunday, now there is an alternative. Pastor Rick Conrad, of Community Church informs us they are now offering a Saturday night service beginning Sept. 15. The services will be at 6:30 p.m. at their new location, 1400 Numa Road in Susanville. Child care and children's classes are also available.

JUNIOR AND WOMEN’S PHEASANT HUNTS

The annual Junior and Women’s Pheasant Hunts hosted by California Department of Fish and Game will be held Oct. 20 and 21 at the Fleming and Dakin units of the Honey Lake Wildlife Area. Todd Anderson and Marianne Campbell, owners of the Courthouse Café on Riverside Drive in Susanville, tell us they have new fall hours.

“We’re now open Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.,” said Anderson. “Plus, we’ve added new themed sandwiches and we’re still making up our delicious homemade soups.”
