Volunteers needed for Hobbit reading marathon

Sept. 11, 2012 — The Hobbit is turning 75, although by Middle Earth reckoning, Bilbo Baggins lived many years past that age due to the powers of his magical golden ring.

September 22 marks the 75th anniversary for publication of J. R. R. Tolkien’s classic tale of dragons, dwarves, a quest and a hobbit.

In celebration of what is arguably one of the most widely read and loved tales of the past 75 years, Margie’s Book Nook is hosting a Hobbit marathon from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22 and David Teeter, Book Nook manager, is looking for readers to volunteer their time reading a segment of the story.

The hope is to complete the entire novel by closing time at 5 p.m.

Although there will be plenty of children’s games and activities, Teeter hopes people will also spend time reading and listening to the story as it’s read aloud throughout the day.

Teeter said, “The Hobbit is not really a kids’ story. Mainly the day is just about having fun and an excuse to read The Hobbit all day long.”

Ouch, my quote was taken out of context ;-) What I meant is that "The Hobbit" isn't just a kid's story but is fun for the whole family. So join us Saturday, September 15th and hear some Hobbit.
