Tomato Festival, Purses for Pets fundraiser tomorrow

Sept. 14, 2012 — The 2nd Annual Tomato Festival and Purses for Pets event will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15 at Every Bloomin’ Thing.

Purses for Pets is a silent auction featuring gently used upscale handbags, with proceeds going to the Lassen Humane Society’s (LHS) spay and neuter program.

According to Bonnie Mueller, LHS volunteer, last year’s inaugural event was a pleasant surprise and a great success.

“Last year was so much fun,” said Mueller. “We were in this beautiful garden setting, the music was great and the tomatoes were delicious. We raised $1,500 for the humane society and it was so nice we wanted to do it again.”

The Tomato Festival will include heirloom tomato tasting and fresh bruschetta samples, along with select wines by the glass. There will also be a giant tomato contest with a $100 gift card for the winner.

Treats Dog Company will be on hand with free samples and to answer questions about pet nutrition and care. David Eachus will supply live eclectic classic rock tunes.

Tomato and pet lovers will also have a chance to win a cord of wood, a gift basket from Treats and other great prizes. Admission is free and all ages are welcome.

Every Bloomin’ Thing is located at 707-670 Highway 395 East in Susanville.  For more information about the Tomato Festival, call 251-2330. For more information about the LHS spay and neuter program and Purses for Pets, call 257-4555.
