Sept. 26, 2012 — Imagine yourself with a group of your closest friends exploring a dark, creepy forest on a Friday or Saturday night in October.

All of a sudden out of the trees, or behind an unsuspecting object in the woods, your group of friends are terrorized by a massive werewolf, or stalked by Jason Voorhees, or startled by Captain America from the movie “House of 1,000 Corpses.”

This, on any other occasion, would be out of the ordinary, but is all part of the fun and the thrill ride you would encounter if you attend the first Annual Frightmare Forest, put on by the Lassen Community College men’s and women’s basketball programs this October.

The Frightmare Forest will take place from 8 to 11 p.m. every Friday and Saturday in October.

The Frightmare Forest will be located at 472-120 Richmond Road in Susanville, the sight of 25-plus acres of an overgrown Christmas tree farm, where there are endless places to hide.

There will be two separate mazes through the woods: “Cinema Psychos” and “Frightmare Forest.”

Along with the haunted mazes, there will be a separate carnival game area where the more innocent crowd can have fun playing games, winning prizes and enjoying the Halloween atmosphere.

The price of admission is $5 for one maze, or $8 to go through both mazes.

The carnival area is free admission, with prices varying at each game.

Costumes are not allowed in the mazes, but are welcomed in the carnival area.

All proceeds go to the Cougars men and women’s basketball programs.

The Cougars men’s basketball head coach Devin Aye says, “This is a perfect way for us to get out into the community and introduce both the student athletes, as well as myself, to the local public. I know people look for things to do on weekends, and in the evenings around town. This offers everyone of all ages a safe and fun seasonal event to enjoy, talk about and share memories with friends and a chance to meet new friends. I am a big Halloween fan myself, and I know our men and women will enjoy putting on a great show for the community. Coach Dorinda Shaffer and I are excited about this year. Hopefully the community will feel included in our success on and off the basketball court this year as we shoot for Conference Championships and beyond.”

Aye would love to have the stands filled at the games and for people to say, “I know him, he was that Werewolf that scared me at Frightmare Forest.”
