County clerk corrects ballot error
Oct. 16, 2011 — Lassen County Clerk-Recorder Julie Bustamante, the county’s election official, acknowledged an error had been made in which a few ballots incorrectly gave nearly 30 voters an opportunity to vote for candidates in the Susan River Fire District even though they do not reside with that district.
Bustamante issued the following press release this afternoon with information and direction for affected voters.
“An error was made in our addressing file. The streets of Belfast Road and Laurel Lane were inadvertently placed in the wrong fire district. Because of this, 29 voters were sent ballots that contained the Susan River Fire District race in error. However, this error has been corrected.
“Corrected ballots were sent to these voters with a letter of explanation. Voters were requested to destroy the original ballot containing the Susan River Fire District race and asked to vote the corrected ballot. If by chance the voter has already voted and mailed their ballot, it is being set aside and will be replaced with the corrected ballot.
"If you have any questions, call the county clerk’s office at (530) 251-8217.
