Donald Angelo Amistani

Donald Angelo Amistani was born Jan. 12, 1934 in Lassen County. He passed away Oct. 21, 2012 at Renown Hospital in Reno, Nev. at the age of 78.

After high school, Don served in the Marine Corps, specializing in combat swimming. He was stationed in Hawaii and Japan. Don returned to Susanville upon his discharge from the military, and worked at local lumber mills until his retirement in January of 1996. As a young man and dad, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, though he soon found his passion for golf and gardening, which he enjoyed well into his retirement. His garden was plentiful and his generous bounties shared amongst neighbors, friends and family. An Italian at heart, Don loved everyone he met. He was a longtime resident of Susanville, Calif.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Beatrice Amistani; and their three children, Michael, of Susanville, Karen, of Florida, and Robert, of Reno, and his wife Nicole.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Gonsalves; father, Angelo Amistani; brother, Rod Amistani; and eldest grandson, Robert Amistani.

He is survived by his seven grandchildren, Cassandra Amistani, Mathew Amistani, Samantha Amistani, Heather Amistani, Gabrielle Amistani, Blake Rainwater and Logan Rainwater; and cousins, Frank Ernaga, Sandra Stone, Cecil Bilbao, Bernice and Jesse Reuck, and their families.

The family has honored Don’s wishes of no service or funeral. He was cremated at Simple Cremations in Reno. We’d like to express our appreciation to all those involved in his care, for everyone’s thoughts and prayers, and for the tremendous support we’ve received. Don was a big man with a big heart who touched many lives. He will be missed.
