Thanksgiving day accident sends four to hospital
Nov. 26, 2012 — Four Reno residents were transported to Renown Medical Center after a single vehicle accident that occurred in the early morning on Thanksgiving day.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), at approximately 7:01 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, Jorge Rosales, 18, was driving southbound on Highway 395, south of county road A-25 at or about the speed limit.
The CHP said Rosales reported he had been driving for nine hours. He fell asleep and allowed the vehicle to drift across the northbound lane and onto the shoulder. Rosales woke up and swerved to the right. The vehicle traveled across the southbound lane and Rosales swerved to the left.
The unsafe turning caused the vehicle to overturn approximately three times. As the vehicle overturned, the front passenger, Araceli Gonzalez, 21, of Reno, Nev. was ejected from the vehicle due to not being properly restrained, according to the CHP.
Gonzalez and Rosales sustained major injuries.
The other passengers, Julio Gutierrez, 17, Daisy Gonzalez, 17, sustained moderate injuries and Jordan Cervantes, 4, received minor injuries.
