Wet weather warning for Lassen County
Nov. 27, 2012 — Lassen County is expecting wet and windy weather to return later this week.
A fast moving storm system will bring a period of wet weather to The Sierra Wednesday and Wednesday evening. Wet weather with this system will be short lived with accumulating snow remaining near 6,500 feet and higher.
A more significant set of storms is shaping up for Thursday night into the weekend. These storms will likely tap moisture from the Central Pacific and confidence is high it will bring a prolonged period of heavy precipitation to the Sierra and adjacent areas of Eastern California.
These storms will likely have high snow levels (above 7,500 to 8,000 feet), therefore significant snowfall will likely be relegated to only the highest elevations of the Sierra. Heavy rains in lower elevations may create some minor rises in streams but flooding is not expected.
Travel will be affected over the higher passes in the Sierra this coming weekend.
Monday will bring a chance of rain or snow. Snow level will be above 4,500 feet.
