Be prepared for stormy weather
Nov. 29, 2012 — Caltrans District 2 is prepared for the upcoming storms, and wants to make sure travelers are planning ahead when heading out during the current predicted stormy, wet weather.
In anticipation of the rainy weather, Caltrans crews have been removing fire-damaged trees throughout the region during the past several months, and will monitor drains that could become blocked.
Winter equipment was readied during the summer months as well, and District 2 crews have 267 full time, 51 part time and 31 on-call employees ready to work around the clock. The district has signs and barricades ready to install on roadways that could potentially flood.
As always, Caltrans asks travelers to plan ahead — keeping chains, water, blankets and snacks available in vehicles, in case of unforeseen delays — and check road conditions or road maps prior to departing, when possible. The Caltrans District 2 website, caltrans2.info, provides a variety of traveler information under the Traveler tab, including maps, road cameras, road conditions, chain controls in effect and road work scheduled. Another traveler tool is the statewide map of road conditions available by clicking the link called QuickMap or going to quickmap.dot.ca.gov. Caltrans District 2 continues to provide information via Twitter, @CaltransD2 and on Facebook at facebook.com/CaltransDistrict2.
For road conditions, check the links above or call (800) 427-ROAD (7623). For additional information, call the District 2 Public Information Office at 229-0511.
