Possible widespread power outages and flooding

Nov. 29, 2012 — The Lassen County Office of Emergency Services along with the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, Susanville City Fire Department and the Susanville Police Department would like to advise Lassen County residents of the incoming storms accompanied by heavy rains and high winds.

The National Weather Service, Reno Office, has issued a warning for possible small stream and urban flooding. The highest likelihood of flooding will occur Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning. The Susan River is predicted to rise within a foot of the 12-foot flood stage by Sunday morning.

The heavy rains, along with the high winds, will increase the likelihood of trees blowing down onto power line causing widespread power outages. Residents should be prepared to move out of low-lying areas and be prepared for power outages.

Residents should have the following items available in the event of an emergency:

•Three days of food and water for each family member

•Medications for at least seven days

•First aid kit

•Flashlights with extra batteries

•Battery-operated radio

•At least three quarters of a tank of fuel in your vehicle

For additional emergency preparedness information, go to calema.ca.gov or ready.gov.
