CHP officers investigating a hit and run in Herlong

Jan. 2, 2013 — The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating a hit and run accident that resulted in downed communication lines in the Herlong area.

At approximately 3:55 a.m., Monday, Dec. 31, CHP officers responded to a call of utility lines down and across the roadway on county Road A25 and A26. The lines were also blocking the entrance to the Herlong Federal Prison.

Plumas Sierra Rural Electric utility workers also responded to the area and determined the lines to be non-energized communication wires and safe to traverse.

CHP allowed traffic, directed by personnel from the Herlong Volunteer Fire Department, to slowly traverse the lines until Frontier Communications was able to respond to the scene and repair the lines.

According to the CHP, officers followed a fluid trail to a residence on Red Rock Court in Herlong where they located the alleged damaged hit and run vehicle, but were unable to locate the driver.
