Budget workshops scheduled
Jan. 8, 2013 — More cuts are inevitable and to get the board and public’s input, two budget workshops for the Lassen Union High School District (LUHSD) will be held this week.
The first meeting will be held at the board’s regularly scheduled meeting at 6:30 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, Jan. 8.
The second meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10.
Both meetings will be held in the boardroom at 814 Cottage St. and are expected to end by 9 p.m.
According to LUHSD interim superintendent Roy Casey, the district has been borrowing internally for some time to balance the budget. The district has also been making cuts for the past three years and Casey said it is not able to make cuts without reductions to personnel and programs now.
During the workshops, the budget will be gone through line by line and people will be able to give input.
Casey said all categories will be addressed in the workshops, including the controversial reduction of force, school programs and extra-curricular activities such as sports.
