Big week for LHS
This week is critical if Lassen High School girls' basketball team will win a Westside League title. The Grizzlies travel to Gridey Tuesday, Jan. 29 and head to Oroville Thursday, Jan. 31.
Lassen is tied atop the league standing with both teams with a 3-1 record.
"This is definitely a big week for us. Unfortunately we have to play both games on the road," Lassen head coach Dorinda Shaffer said. "We've got to beat them both if we want to win this thing. The girls have got to keep playing hard and remain focused. I think they're up to the challenge.
"We feel we had Oroville beat last time we faced them, and Gridley is beatable. We just have to stop their point guards and keep them from having big games. Their point guards are the ones who make or break them offensively."
The Grizzlies (11-8) blew out Orland 73-48 at home Tuesday, Jan. 22.
Reanna Leitaker led the way with 15 points. Morgan Kimbriel had 11 points and eight rebounds, and Tenley DeKock added 10 points and six boards.
Tanneria Johnson scored nine, Rebecca Retterath and Haley Trevino chipped eight points. Johnelle Granless collected six rebounds.
Lassen shot 63 percent from the line.
After this week, Lassen hosts only two more league games. Corning comes to town Friday, Feb. 8 and Gridley visits Friday, Feb.15.
The varsity games tip off at 7:30 p.m.
