Lassen High School wrestlers compete in North Section Masters

Feb. 26 — The Lassen High School (LHS) wrestling team traveled to the Redding Convention Center Feb. 22 and 23 to compete in the North Section Masters Tournament. LHS placed 12th as a team.
All 44 high school teams in the North Section participated in the tournament, which is a qualifier for the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) State Wrestling Tournament in Bakersfield, Calif. on March 1 and 2.
Wrestlers had to place within the top three in their weight class to qualify for the state tournament. LHS freshman Kenny Jones took third place in the 113-pound weight class, making him the only LHS wrestler and only freshman in the North Section to move on to the state tournament.
Senior Alex McConnell took sixth place in the 145-pound weight class. Senior Nick Hibbits won sixth place in the 152-pound weight class. In the 160-pound division, Noah Lindeman won one match and lost two. Senior Jake Thiels took sixth place in the 182-pound weight class. In the 195-pound division, Timmy Buelow won two matches and lost two.
There are ten sections in California and 40 wrestlers from each section qualify in each weight division to compete in the CIF State Wrestling Tournament.
