Snow expected in the Sierra and northeast California tonight into Wednesday
Tuesday, March 5, 2013 — A band of moderate to heavy snow will reach northeast California by 10 p.m. this evening, Tuesday, March 5 and move south along the sierra overnight through Wednesday morning. Additional bands of snow showers will continue through Wednesday evening as a cold low pressure reaches northern California.
The snow will develop with a period of moderate to heavy snow mainly west of Highway 395 overnight into early Wednesday morning. Snow showers will continue through Wednesday evening.
Snow accumulations are expected to be 6 to 12 inches deep west of Highway 395 with the highest accumulations along and west of Highway 89 and along Highways 36 and 44 west of Susanville. Two to 4 inches are expected east of highway 395.
Snow levels will be starting between 4,500 and 5,000 feet this evening quickly lowering to all valley floors overnight.
Winds are expected from the southwest — 15 to 25 miles per hour with gusts 40 to 50 mph.
Snow is expected to pose an inconvenience to travelers. Roads will become slick and hazardous, with snow and ice first
developing on bridges and overpasses. Motorists should slow down and use caution. Check weather.gov/reno or listen to NOAA weather radio for updates on this situation.
