May 28, 2013 — Wanting to do something for those affected by a deadly school shooting, Long Valley Charter School junior high school students created a book to send to them.
According to Kelly Mitchell, seventh-and eighth-grade teacher at the local charter school, students came up with the idea of creating a book which was published and features inspirational quotes each student wrote and a corresponding picture they created.
They mailed it to Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
In December, Adam Lanza allegedly killed 20 children and six adults at the New England school before shooting himself as first responders arrived on scene.
Mitchell said the students wanted to do something; one idea included a teddy bear drive but that didn’t pan out, and the book was all their idea.
The book was sent in April and Mitchell said they are waiting in anticipation to see if they will acknowledge it.
