June 3, 2013 — Two men were arrested and more than 1,300 marijuana plants were seized during a search warrant execution near Little Valley on Sunday, June 2.
Jose Morfin, 29, and Jose Zavala, 24, both Mexican immigrants, were booked into the Lassen County Jail. They are also being held on out of county warrants.
On June 1, a deputy along with a ranger from the Bureau of Land Management were on patrol in the Northwest area of the county, according to Kevin Jones, a detective/ sergeant with the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office and narcotics task force.
They came upon a residence that, although appeared vacant, housed many marijuana plants in plain sight.
Further investigation revealed several hundred marijuana plants were on the property. Personnel from the sheriff’s office and the narcotics task force responded and a search warrant was prepared for the property.
Jones said volunteer reserve deputies played an important role in the investigation by securing the sight overnight while the investigation continued.
In addition to the marijuana plants, portable power generators, fertilizer and irrigation supplies were also seized during the search.
