City sets firework ordinance
June 25, 2013 — In an attempt to remain cautious, Susanville City Council approved the ordinance for the regulated sell and use of fireworks in the area.
Much like the previous year, the regulations determine what types of fireworks may be discharged and sold within city limits, when they can be used, and how many can be sold.
Due to dry weather and fire hazards, only fireworks falling under the category of safe and sane, meaning they do not fly or explode, are allowed in the city limits.
Just like last year, only six booths may sell fireworks between 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., June 29 to July 5. However, according to Fire Battalion Chief James Moore, usually only five booth positions are taken, potentially allowing for more sales.
Additionally, unless a permit has been obtained for June 1 to October 31, these safe and sane fireworks may only be used between 6 a.m. and midnight, Thursday, July 4. Between the months of November through May, a permit is not needed.
These regulations were extracted from local and state health and safety codes.
