Westwood resident dies in vehicle crash
UPDATE on the vehicle accident on Highway 36
A 39-year-old Westwood woman died in a head-on collision early this afternoon, Monday, July 29.
The woman’s identity is being withheld pending appropriate notifications.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the woman was driving west on Highway 36 in her 1999 Lexus at an unknown speed. Dusty Debraga, 53, of Red Bluff, was traveling east at an unknown speed in his 2004 pickup.
For unknown reasons, the woman allowed her vehicle to cross the double yellow center-line and entered the eastbound lane directly into Debraga’s path, the CHP said.
The vehicles collided head on and came to rest blocking the westbound lane of the highway at milepost 16.12.
Debraga sustained major injuries and was Lifeflighted to Enloe Hospital in Chico.
Motorists experienced traffic delays for approximately two hours due to the accident and rescue personnel on scene.
