Fire weather watch
Aug. 7, 2013 — According to the National Weather Service, significant fire starts are possible beginning Thursday, Aug. 8 in Lassen County. Low pressure off the California coast will move slowly inland Thursday. The mid-level moisture and instability will increase this morning and continue into the afternoon with scattered thunderstorms possible. The thunderstorms will start dry and gradually transition to wet during the day with only spotty wetting rains possible. Outflow winds peak gusts are expected to 40 mph near thunderstorms.
A significant number of new fire starts is possible due to lightning from these storms.
The fire weather watch remains in effect through this evening for dry thunderstorms in Northeast California and extreme Northwest Nevada.
