With the beginning of the current school year, the new library at McKinley School has become a full-scale operation. The task of preparing the initial 1,200 books was completed during the summer so the library could function the first day of school.  

In addition to the books owned by the school district, another 1,050 have been borrowed under contract from the Lassen County School Library.

 

Remember when for Sept. 7, 2010

120 years ago  

Professor D. Cooper of Ogden, Utah, has been offered an inducement to come and give an exhibition of his aerial ascending ability during fair week. If he accepts the offer of our fair directors, Susanville residents can expect a grand treat.

 

Remember When for Aug. 31, 2010

120 years ago   

John Alexander, the Susanville Nimrod, took a load of vegetables to Red Rock and brought a load of meat back in the form of a large muletail buck which weighed more than 200 pounds dressed out. A reporter of the day called it the largest buck ever seen in Susanville.

 

Remember When for Aug. 24, 2010

 70 years ago   

Over on Mill Street, a Susanville man turned down an offer to make $95,000 “clear cash” made to him by another man from Mexico City.   

The local man said he was conversant in the swindling scheme, which is older than the hills and which in the past cost many worthy but money mad their worldly goods.
