Filing deadline extended in some races
Friday, March 7, 2014 — Lassen County Clerk Julie Bustamante announced at 5 p.m. Friday, March 7 the deadline to file a Nomination Petition/ Declaration of Candidacy has been extended to 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, for the following races because the incumbent did not file by the close of the filing period: Assessor, Auditor, District Attorney, Treasurer/Tax Collector, Board of Supervisors-District 3.
Any person, other than the incumbent, wishing to file can do so at the County Clerk’s office in the Historic Courthouse at 220 S. Lassen St, Suite 5, Susanville.

Incumbents are not eligible to file during this extended filing period.
Qualifications for all offices — The California Elections Code requires all candidates for public office in California to be registered voters and otherwise qualified to vote for the office they are seeking at the time their nomination papers are issued. The constitutional requirements to be a registered voter are that a person must be a United States citizen, at least 18 years of age, not in prison or on parole for the conviction of a felony, and not determined by a court of law to be mentally incompetent.
Beyond these general qualifications, some offices require more specific qualifications and proof candidates meet these qualifications.
Filing fees and number of signatures — Candidates need to pay the following fees and collect the following number of signatures: Assessor $940, 20-40 signatures; Auditor $940, 20-40 signatures; District Attorney $1,137, 20-40 signatures; Supervisor, District 3 $333, 20-40 signatures; and Treasurer/Tax Collector $940 20-40 signatures.
City offices — Papers for these offices are filed with the City Clerk at 66 N. Lassen St., Susanville: City Council Member - Number to be elected: 2.
Terms of office — The terms of office are four years, Jan. 5, 2015 to Jan. 7, 2019.
